Data Steward Role
A data steward is a staff member with oversight responsibility for a subset of institutional data. The steward is typically an end user within an operational area who is deemed a subject matter expert with regard to the data managed by that operational area.
Data steward responsibilities include:
Serve as the primary point of contact and coordination for data management issues and operations within the steward’s data domain.
Understand and apply security and privacy standards, guidelines, and practices. If unclear, contact leadership for guidance.
Actively represent the concerns and interests of the steward’s organizational unit.
Carry out activities and directives approved by the data trustee to whom the steward reports.
